Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald

von Ödön von Horváth
Premiere 17.4.27, Thalia Theater

A neighborhood in Vienna: a doll clinic, a butcher shop, a tobacco shop—an idyllic world. This is where Marianne lives; she is supposed to marry the butcher Oskar, but she defies her father’s wishes and seeks her own path. But behind the tranquil facades smolder moralism, tradition, and coldness. There is no room for Marianne’s happiness there, and her search for liberation turns into a sad struggle against opportunism and fear. Horváth’s masterpiece is a dazzling challenge, an open wound, an appeal to us to work against authoritarianism and inhumanity.
