One day, a young woman named Yong-Hye decides to stop eating meat. This seemingly small decision shakes not only the very foundations of her marriage, but those of her entire family. Her decision to abstain grows into a radical act of defiance against control, violence, and societal expectations.

Nobel Prize winner Han Kang’s novel is a call for nonviolence, a declaration of love for self-determination, and an exploration of the fragility of human identity. Director Lilja Rupprecht takes on this poetically unsettling study of quiet resistance, its limits, and the unexpected breadth of the self.
