Kafka's The Metamorphosis is arguably the most famous story about alienation, conformity, and the desire to be seen. It raises the question: What happens to those who no longer fit into the system?
Burhan Qurbani, known for his cinematic adaptations of Berlin Alexanderplatz and Kein Tier. So Wild, transports Kafka's story into a present in which belonging must be renegotiated. Four people with different perspectives meet in a mysterious way – as if fate had brought them together. Their experiences mirror each other: the fear of exclusion, the struggle for identity in a so-called pluralistic society, the question of conformity and self-assertion.
But what if it is not Gregor Samsa who has changed, but the world? Qurbani's play develops Kafka's motif of transformation into a polyphonic echo of our present – of people who struggle for visibility, who have to assert themselves in a world that has always condemned them to failure.
Note:
The Zeise Kino will be showing kein Tier. So Wild on October 27. This will be followed by a Q&A with actor Camill Jammal.
