»The complexity I’ve lived with my whole life has led me to be alone with my perspective. If I’m already alone with it, why not be alone in front of an audience as well?«
Yousef Sweid, born in Haifa, is a Palestinian-Israeli actor—a man who grew up between two worlds and has always grappled with their complexity. Together with director and writer Isabella Sedlak, Sweid transformed his personal experiences into an insightful, moving, and humorous solo show that has enjoyed international success and received numerous invitations for guest performances since its premiere in April 2025.
Between the River and the Sea explores a life straddling different cultures, narratives, and realities—different versions of the truth. Personal anecdotes meet political reflections—ranging from humorous stories about life in Berlin to flashbacks to Sweid’s childhood as an Arab child in a Christian family attending a Jewish kindergarten. Between the River and the Sea is a plea for “telling unheard stories” and for listening.
Tip: After the performance, the evening continues at Nachtasyl with Make Love Not War.
