Thomas Niehaus

Born in Lübeck, Thomas Niehaus studied drama at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover and gained his first stage experience while still a student at theatres in Lübeck and Hanover. In 2004, he joined Claus Peymann's Berliner Ensemble, where he worked mainly with Claus Peymann, Thomas Langhoff, Manfred Karge and Philip Tiedemann. He played Andri in Max Frisch's Andorra and Tempelherr in Lessing's Nathan der Weise, as well as Andreas Kragler in Philip Tiedemann's staging of Trommeln in der Nacht. When Joachim Lux became artistic director of Thalia Theater in 2009, Thomas Niehaus joined the ensemble and developed important working relationships with directors Antú Romero Nunes, Jette Steckel and Luk Perceval, among others.

In 2014, he and his co-stars in Antú Romero Nunes' production of Moby Dick were awarded the Hamburg Theatre Prize – Rolf Mares. This was the first time the prize had been awarded to an ensemble. In 2018, Thomas Niehaus was invited to Berliner Theatertreffen with his fellow actor Paul Schröder for Odyssee (directed by Antú Romero Nunes).

In 2020, the film TAGUNDNACHTGLEICHE, in which he plays the lead role, received the Baden-Württemberg Film Prize for best feature film.
