In his writings, photographs, and documentary films from the late 1980s, Hervé Guibert grapples in a unique way with his own AIDS diagnosis and that of his companions. In his writings, he combines radical honesty with deeply personal self-reflection: What does it mean to write, photograph, and document in times of despair? What does it mean to expose oneself relentlessly and thereby immortalize oneself?
The production Mitleidsprotokoll – every tear recorded is dedicated to Guibert’s texts, which must do without a happy ending, and asks what role they can play today in remembering and dreaming of (queer) life.
