Mary Ann has come to Hamburg with her grandmother from New York and is accompanying her on a series of lectures. When her grandmother suffers a fainting spell, Mary Ann steps in for her. She talks about Esther and herself, revealing fragments of her memories to the audience. In her luggage: photos and original recordings showing her grandmother and stories about Esther Bauer: from her sheltered childhood in Eppendorf, the beginning of Nazi rule, her deportation to the Theresienstadt ghetto and Auschwitz concentration camp, her liberation in Mauthausen, her emigration to New York, and the building of a new life.
