Barbie's world is pink – there are no illnesses, no wars, no crises. Each cog fits perfectly with the next and together they turn the omnipresent perfection. Everything is simply fantastic, isn't it?

In his rewriting of Nora. A Doll's House, Emre Akal transfers the plot of Ibsen's drama to the world of Barbie and Ken. What would Nora-Barbie be like? How would she fare in a reality in which everything revolves around her husband Ken aka Helmer? As Barbie, she is successful, talented and radiantly healthy – she lives in a dream world. Nora's reality, this dependence on an omnipresent husband, must be a nightmare for her.

A symbiosis of stage design and visual art creates a world between analogue and virtual reality. The digital reality, designed and created by the artist duo Mehmet & Kazim, merges with the sculptural stage architecture of Lara Roßwag. Emre Akal is an award-winning author and director. In his work, he interweaves choreography, installation and image composition. His works have been shown at renowned theatres such as the Bakirköy City Theatre in Istanbul, the Munich Kammerspiele and the Schauspielhaus Graz. On his initiative, the Ayse X State Theatre was founded in 2019 as an alternative to the institutional theatre landscape. The project explores possibilities for a new intersectional and diversified theatre practice.
