For the World – Lessingtage 2020
January 18 to February 9, 2020

The motto of this year’s Lessing Festival is:

“Who owns the world?”

One possible answer could be “Not us, that’s for sure!” Then why do we pretend it does? The Biblical phrase “Subdue the earth” has often been taken to destructive extremes that continue to affect the world to the present day: the northern hemisphere’s colonialism of the south, and the ruthless waste of natural resources to the point of selfannihilation.

These are the two main focal points of the festival in 2020. As always, we provide multifaceted national and international productions, aside shows from some of our repertory that deal with those themes. Additionally, we expect stimulating insights from the field of natural sciences that throw a spotlight on overarching global themes.

We warmly invite you to discover new, unknown and surprising insights during our threeweek festival. It’s about looking ahead: 23 Days for Future,
as it were, not only on Fridays
