“Does not your foot stride upon something true, as upon carpets / For that reason, my Genius! Only step / purely into life, and do not worry” Extract from “Timidity” by Friedrich Hölderlin.
Since 2012, Thalia and its ensemble have enjoyed a close collaboration and friendship with the writer Navid Kermani. In twelve collaborations, the whole ensemble has explored Kermani’s texts and ideas by bringing theatre to unusual locations (e.g. a big wheel, a mosque, refugee accommodation and a brothel on the Reeperbahn).
The newly opened psychiatric facility offers day clinics and in-house care for children, young people and adolescents. Together with the patients, staff and clinical director Professor Michael Schulte-Markwort (“Family Years”), the Thalia ensemble will perform texts and poems by Friedrich Hölderlin. The text at the heart of this event is Navid Kermani’s book “But soon we will be singing”, which analyses Hölderlin not only as a poet, but also as a letter writer, a lover and a mystic.
