“When will we be able to dance with each other again?” asks Giulietta Masina with a worried glance towards her film partner Marcello Mastroianni in the 1986 film “Ginger and Fred” by Federico Fellini. At the end of a long career, the ageing entertainment duo come together for one last appearance in front of the TV cameras. They pose the existential question that has been occupying the minds of everyone in society for the past year and a half, but particularly the minds of artists.

Loosely inspired by the film about the transience of artists’ existence, this is a sensitive evening at the theatre, which takes the return to the stage as its subject matter. A ballad dedicated to performers and their desire to pour their innermost feelings out for their audience, even those emotions buried for a long time. Because sometimes you simply have to dance, be it in an evening gown or in your pyjamas.

The director/author duo, who always perform in their own productions, work masterfully with the suggestive power of intimate storytelling. They have already been invited to many international festivals, but this is the first time they will present this love letter to art and the theatre in Germany.
