Katharina Arkit studied scenography and costume design at Hanover University and the Escola Superior De Teatro E Cinema in Lisbon, Portugal. During this time, she created her first designs for short films and opera projects like, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ (Directed by Matthias Remus) and ‘Così fan tutte’ (Directed by Mascha Pörzgen) at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. She completed her Bachelor of Arts course with a production of Dürrenmatt’s ‘The Physicists’ in January 2016.
She also studied Transnational Literary Studies (Literature, Theatre, Film) at Bremen University and the Università di Bologna in Italy. She graduated from this course in 2019 with a Master of Arts.
Before her studies, Katharina assisted in different departments of the Osnabrück State Theatre, in the art department at the Babelsberg Film Studios and at the Derby Theatre. She completed her practical studies at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, where she assisted with productions by Stephan Kimmigs, Jorinde Dröses and Tom Kühnel/Jürgen Kuttners, working with costume designers Anja Rabens, Camilla Daemen and Daniela Selig.
Ahead of the 2019/2020 season, Katharina became a permanent design assistant at Thalia. Here she assists costume designers including Joki Tewes and Jana Findeklee, Helen Stein and Lena Schön, Pauline Hüners and Victoria Behr, in productions by Antú Romero Nunes, Stefan Bachmann and Jette Steckel. She has created her own projects here too, as part of the Theaternacht event and in the Nachtasyl bar.
