Born in Berlin in 1983, Andy Besuch studied Staging and Costume Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, under Henning Schaller and Johannes Leiacker.
Since then, he has designed for countless productions, working for directors including Falk Richter, Suse Wächter, Simone Blattner, Patrick Wengenroth and Florian Lutz, at various theatres and opera houses, including the Cologne Schauspiel, the Munich Residenztheater, the Hanover Schauspiel, the Schaubühne at Lehniner Platz, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus, the Stuttgart State Theatre, the Maxim Gorki Theatre and the Baden State Theatre in Karlsruhe.
His costumes for "The Master and Margarita" at the Stuttgart Schauspiel (directed by Christian Weise) earned him a nomination from the critics at “theater heute” magazine for the 2011 “Costume Designer of the Year” award.
In 2015, he designed the Eva Bonacker Award-winning costumes for "The Neverending Story" (Directed by Rüdiger Pape) at Thalia in Hamburg and designed the dragon Fuchur. His designs for Jelinek’s “Royal Road” (Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Directed Falk Richter) earned him the 2018 “theater heute” Costume Design of the Year award.
Andy Besuch also works on national and international film productions, as well as adverts.
